  2. Objectifs • You will be able to: • Give a command in a formal (vous) and informal (tu) form with the verbs ER,RE, and IR

  3. L’impératif • Is a verb mood which we use to: • Give an order • Express a desire • Make a request • Offer advice • Recommend something

  4. The how! • L’impératif conjugations are simple • There are 3 grammatical persons that can be used: TU, NOUS, VOUS • Most are the same as the present tense • The only difference is that the subject pronoun is not used in the imperative

  5. Informal- Tu • When you tell someone to do something you use the impératif • You must use the TU form minus the S and the TU • Tu danses- Danse! (ER verb) • You dance- Dance! • Tu vends- - Vend! (RE verb) • You sell- Sell! • Tu finis-Fini! (IR verb) • You finish-Finish!

  6. Impératif (formal way –vous) • To give a command to someone you address in a formal way, use the form of the verb vous without the pronoun • Vous dansez-Dansez! • You dance- Dance! • Vous vendez- Vendez! • You sell- Sell! • Vous finissez-Finissez! • You finish- Finish!

  7. L’impératif- Nous (Lets…) • The command for nous (let’s dance! Let’s sing!) is the same as the conjugated form of the verb for nous. • Dansons! Lets Dance • Vendons! Lets Sell • Finissons! Lets finish

Chanter- to sing Repondre- to answer Parler Regarder- to watch Nager- to swim Manger Écouter Attérir- to land Grossir- to get fat Réussir- to succeed Travailler- to work Perdre- to lose Attendre- to wait Guérir- to cure Entendre- to hear Punir- to punish Obeir- to obey Sauter- to jump Finir Choisir Penser- to think Nourrir- to feed Fermer- to close Les verbes!
