Her mother introduced her to uppers and downers as a young girl. Despite many hit movies such as The Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St. Louis, and Easter Parade, MGM Studios released her from their contract. She was damaged goods by 28 years old, and considered an unreliable physical and emotional wreck. At 37 years old, she was a semi-invalid after recovering from a near fatal overdose. Told she could never work again, Judy went on to a full recovery and within two years gave one of the most legendary comeback performances in history. Drugs, alcohol, family, and the movie studio all contributed to the death of Judy Garland. When she needed to come down, she was fed sedatives. Before she was 30 years old, the movie studio deemed her a liability. All the years of drug use took a mental and physical toll on Judy. She was late to work and when she was performing the drugs made her a wreck. The studio discounted her hit films and blacklisted her. This lead to Judy’s career to take an upswing. Despite this success, she overdosed in a London Hotel on prescription drugs. The same drugs she was given as a child.
