    2. Psalm 106 Hallelujah - “Praise the LORD” A psalm that praises God’s activity Ps 106:1-5 Speaks of God’s mercy, favor and salvation Speaks of the people’s prosperity and gladness But how did God’s mercy and favor show itself to the people in order to bring salvation to them?

    3. Psalm 106 6-12 From Egypt to the Red Sea 13-15 Desires in the wilderness 16-18 Envying Moses and Aaron 19-23 Worshipping the golden calf 24-27 Despising the promised land 28-31 Fornication and idolatry 32-33 Waters of Meribah 34-39 Failure in settling the land 40-46 Forgetting God

    4. Result of the problems Ps 106:47-48 Eventually brought them back to God Salvation was God’s goal Sometimes the route to the goal takes some odd turns

    5. Summary of Psalm 106 Ps 106:15 “He gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul” (NKJV) Meaning: Just because God let you have what you wanted, does not mean God approves of your desire.

Getting what they wanted, Getting what they deserved Jacob He wanted the blessing (Gen 27:1-17) He got the blessing by deception (Gen 27:18-29) Was deceived about his bride (Gen 29:25) Was deceived about his wages (Gen 31:7) Was deceived about son’s death (Gen 37:29-36) In the end – Genesis 47:9

    7. Getting what they wanted, Getting what they deserved Lot Wanted the riches Sodom offered (Gn 13:5-13) Tormented his soul (2 Pet 2:7-8) Lost his wife (Gen 19:26) Lost his wealth and town (Gen 19:29) Corrupted his daughters (Gen 19:30-38) Was his desire worth it?

    8. Getting what they wanted, Getting what they deserved Gehazi, Wanted Naaman’s silver and garments (2 Kgs 5:20-24) Got Naaman’s leprosy as well (2 Kgs 5:25-27) Gave the leprosy to all his descendants Did it pay for the cost?

    9. Getting what they wanted, Getting what they deserved Jewish leaders Wanted the death of Christ (Matt 27:17-26) “His blood be on us and on our children” As a result Lost their place as the chosen people Jerusalem destroyed Over one million Jews slaughtered Was the end what they expected?

    10. What are you asking for? “A good paying job” If it means forsaking the assembling? (Heb 10:25) If it means tormenting your soul? (2 Pet 2:7-8) If it destroys your family? If it costs your soul? (Lk 12:15-21) Godliness with contentment (1 Tim 6:6-10) Where is your treasure? (Matt 6:19-21)

    11. What are you asking for? Approval of your peers What will you sacrifice? (John 12:42-43) Avoiding persecution (2 Tim 3:12)

    12. What are you asking for? A “worldly perfect” spouse The beautiful lady or charming man (Prov 31:30) Then a life wondering why the spouse is vain

    13. Reaping what you sow Gal 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life.”
