  1. Help each other on HW questions! Pre-Calculus August 30th

  2. Study for quiz #2 • Be able to: • Evaluate a graph for a specific x-value. • Determine if a graph is even/odd or neither. • Determine intervals regarding domain, range, increasing, decreasing, constant, inflection point, symmetry, minimum, maximum, concavity, continuous, discontinuous, intercepts. • Prove algebraically for even/odd symmetry.

  3. GREATEST INTEGER FUNCTION f(x) = [[x]] The GIF is like the bill for your cell phone in reverse. If you talk for 3 ½ minutes you get charged for 4 minutes. This rounds UP. The GIF rounds DOWN!

  4. Start with a dark circle on the origin. The dark horizontal line is 1 unit long. It has an open circle on the right.

  5. evaluatingGREATEST INTEGER FUNCTION If the number is an integer, use that integer. [[5]] = 5 [[-3]] = -3 If the number is not an integer, use the next smaller integer. [[1.2]] = 1 [[-3.6]] = -4 SLIDE LEFT ON THE NUMBER LINE!

  6. End Behavior:refers to the y-value Where the function is approaching at + infinity As the x gets bigger and bigger, the y value is doing what?

  7. End Behavior:VERBALLY As x approaches f(x) increases without bound. As x approaches f(x) decreases without bound.

  8. Limit Notation: also used to show end behavior Or use this if both go in the same direction.

  9. END BEHAVIOR: In your function book, do the end behavior section now. Next fill in the last page, GIF.

  10. HOMEWORK WORK ON YOUR FACTORING PACKET and finish up all parts of the function book 
