Analyzing performance metrics of Cell Broadband Engine and nVIDIA GeForce GPU in the INF5062 competition. Results show total execution time and winners' congratulations.

Hardware and Testing • Cell Broadband Engine: Playstation 3 machine at the RELAY lab: stovner.ndlab.net • nVIDIA GPU:GeForce 8800GT (G92) card at the RELAY lab: montebello.ndlab.net • We ran the foreman and tractor test sequence five times for each group. The best run was used. Caches was flushed in the beginning of every test sequence. • The “time” application was used to measure execution time. • To get the total time, seconds used to encode foreman and tractor was added together • PSNR was used to verify that the quality of the encoded files did not deviate from the reference CPU implementation.
