  3. BAC is the amount of alcohol in a person’s blood expressed usually in percentage Under the age of 21 Driving While Intoxicated DWI In Texas, you are intoxicated when your blood alcohol content (BAC) is more than 0.00 (ZERO) 0%

  4. If 21 or older: In Texas, you are intoxicated when your blood alcohol level (BAC) is .08 (8%) or more.

  5. Alcohol and drugs do not mix! Alcohol: Can increase or multiply the effects of some drugs (multiplier effect) Slow down absorption of some Can change chemicals Drugs Can alter effects of alcohol

Characteristics of an Alcoholic • First stage is becoming intoxicated regularly (becoming dependent on alcohol) • Cannot limit intake • Experience nausea, shakiness, or other withdrawal symptoms • Need an increasing amount to feel its effects • Often suffer repeated injuries or accidents • Poor relationships with family members

  13. DON’T DRINK! • Be prepared to say “NO” • Be assertive • Refuse to take even 1 drink • Leave the situation quickly • Call for a ride home • Avoid parties where alcohol is present
