Is Alcohol Safe? The Law Says No MIP – Zero Tolerance Law • You Can Be: • Arrested • Fined • Sent to Juvenile Detention Center Illegal for anyone under the age 21 to buy, attempt to buy, possess, or consume alcohol or to lie about age
BAC is the amount of alcohol in a person’s blood expressed usually in percentage Under the age of 21 Driving While Intoxicated DWI In Texas, you are intoxicated when your blood alcohol content (BAC) is more than 0.00 (ZERO) 0%
If 21 or older: In Texas, you are intoxicated when your blood alcohol level (BAC) is .08 (8%) or more.
Alcohol and drugs do not mix! Alcohol: Can increase or multiply the effects of some drugs (multiplier effect) Slow down absorption of some Can change chemicals Drugs Can alter effects of alcohol
Characteristics of an Alcoholic • First stage is becoming intoxicated regularly (becoming dependent on alcohol) • Cannot limit intake • Experience nausea, shakiness, or other withdrawal symptoms • Need an increasing amount to feel its effects • Often suffer repeated injuries or accidents • Poor relationships with family members

Alcoholism cannot be cured. It can be treated through counseling and medication.

DON’T DRINK! • Be prepared to say “NO” • Be assertive • Refuse to take even 1 drink • Leave the situation quickly • Call for a ride home • Avoid parties where alcohol is present
