  1. Reduce Your Bills by Using Propane Gas for Your Home Residential propane prices, like most other fossil fuels are prone to fluctuations. When current propane prices are on the rise, homeowners must find ways to reduce filling expenses and make sure you always have enough budget to cover costs, or better yet, leave more budget to save. Below are practical ways you can save good money on propane use, while keeping your tanks full and your home warm and completely functional: • Consider a larger tank size. Not only can larger tanks hold greater amounts of fuel—they can likewise get you much better rates on your propane consumption. With a tank big enough to store and hold at least one year’s worth of propane, you don’t only skip monthly fillings, but also choose to have it filled during low fuel price seasons, such as during summers, when residential propane prices are usually at their cheapest. Ask your propane gas supplier about their pricing options to find out if they offer good deals on larger fill-ups. • Choose the right provider. When first looking for a propane supplier, don’t hesitate to shop around (or switch companies if you are finding your current supplier to be much more expensive than others). Know what the best propane rates are in your area and observe movements on current propane prices to make sure that you are going for the right choice. Some providers may also offer a price lock-in, which puts a ceiling on your propane rate. By paying a small fee, your provider can cap the amount you need to pay for fill ups, so you don’t need to worry about significant price hikes. The same program will allow you to get your propane supply for less if current propane prices are lower than the lock in rate. • Ask for price breakdowns to make sure you are not paying excessive amounts for extra fees. Make it a point to question charges that seem excessive like fuel surcharges, special delivery cases (after-hours deliveries, or those made on the weekends or during inclement weather). • Use less fuel whenever you can. Perhaps one of the best and simplest ways to reduce your bills is to conserve energy by dialing down temperatures when there’s no one home, beefing up insulation, and upgrading old appliances and replacing them with more energy efficient units.
