    1. Capitals, Columns & Culture The Guide to Downtown Milledgeville’s Historic District

    2. The Encompassment of History Bathed in an intoxicating mixture of magnolia and moonlight, her classic beauty is unsurpassed. Cloaked in mystery and intrigue, her appeal is universal and her attraction undeniable. Like a true southern belle, she perfectly charms treasured guests with fascinating tales, southern delicacies, and gracious hospitality. Meet Milledgeville, the First Lady of Georgia.

    3. “The Problem” The current mapping methods used are not concise or visually/spatially oriented. There are no digital images/maps available of the historic district. Visitors Bureau’s maps are only used for the self guided walking tours. Current maps do not show the true spatial orientation of the historic district.

    4. Our Sources of Information Historic Walking Tour Guide of Milledgeville. Capitals, Columns & Culture; Your guide to Milledgeville, Georgia, and it’s affiliated web sites. Milledgeville’s Welcome Center/Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The guided Trolley Tour with tour guide. Self-guided walking tour.

    5. “Methodology” We created a spatially oriented map from several 1999 Georgia DOQ digital raster images. We co-located the homes and properties between the bureau’s map and our DOQ map. We then screen digitized and plotted all of the historical properties and houses creating an attribute table for each one including any readily available addresses.

    6. “Results” A new digital geo-referenced map of the Milledgeville Historic District. Anybody can now see spatially referenced information that can be used as a tool to better understand the historical significance of the City of Milledgeville.
