Expands information available to beneficiaries for selecting high quality Health & Prescription Drug Plans
3. Significance of STAR Ratings March 2010- Congress mandated that CMS use its Star Ratings to reward higher rated plans with quality bonus payments
Starting in 2012, plans with 4 or more stars will receive bonuses and higher rebates
4 or more stars: bonuses of 1.5% in 2012, 3.0% in 2013, and 5.0% in 2014 and later years
4. Significance of STAR Ratings Plans with fewer than 3 stars for at least 3 years will be flagged as “consistently low performer” on Medicare.gov website
