The Chantiers-Ecoles de Formation Professionnelle (CEFP) is a Cambodian autonomous public vocational training institute set up in May 1992. The CEFP provides trainees with the facilities and supervision necessary to a successful social and professional integration in their local area. It has become a viable alternative for employment, offering real opportunities and prospects for development by tackling several issues, in particular: • Professional and social integration of disadvantaged rural young people, with little formal education, • Local economic development through the implementation and strengthening of rural craftsmanship and the development of services through closer links with industry professionals and active participation in sector programmes for local development; • Technical strengthening of trade knowledge
CEFP vocational training centres The CEFP runs: • The National Silk Centre (CNS), located in Puok district, has contributed since 1994 to the revival of the nearly-extinct silk sector and works towards increasing productivity and quality in this field and protecting rural jobs, which are held mainly by women; • The Siem Reap Training Centre for Building Construction (TCBC) since 1992trains young boys and girls, from underprivileged families. The training programmes place the emphasis on experience-driven knowledge acquisition, through practical work experience at the centre and on construction sites subcontracted to local companies. • The Modular Conception Unit (MCU)focuses on teaching methodologies. A unique concept in Cambodia, the MCU develops training modules in collaboration with trade professionals. The modules are used both during the initial training period and during continuing training sessions.
