Certain Spanish verbs require specialconstruction. They are used with indirect object pronouns.
Special construction of the verbs like “gustar”: • gustar(to like - literally, to be pleasing or to appeal to) • parecer(to seem to one, be of the opinion) • doler(to hurt) • faltar(to be lacking, to need) • quedar(to have - something - left) • encantar(to love -literally, to delight, to enchant) • importar(to care, to mind, to concern)
In Spanish, the person who does the liking is the indirect object, and the thing or person liked is the subject. The preposition «a» is used with a noun or a pronoun to clarify the meaning or to emphasize the indirect object pronoun.
Examples: ¿(A ti) Tegustala película? (Do you like the movie?)
Examples:A Juan no legusta ese profesor, pero a mí megusta mucho. (Juan doesn’t like that teacher, but I like him very much.)
Examples:A ella Legusta Julio Iglesias, a nosotros nos gustan los Beatles. (She likes Julio Iglesias, we like The Beatles).
