  3. “3 C’s Continued” • 2. CALL • Call 9-1-1 or local emergency number • 3. Care • Begin care for person.

  4. STEP 1: CHECKING THE SCENE • IS IT SAFE? • IF NOT THERE COULD BE TWO OR MORE EMERGENCY SITUATIONS • WHAT HAPPENED? • CHECK THE SCENE FOR CLUES • HOW MANY PEOPLE INVOLVED? • PRIORITIZE THE SITUATION

  5. STEP 1: CHECKING THE SCENE • IS THERE IMMEDIATE DANGER INVOLVED? • CAN ANYONE ELSE HELP? • WHAT IS WRONG?

  6. STEP 2: CALL • CALL FIRST FOR: • UNCONCIOUS ADULT OR ADOLESCENT • SUDDEN COLLAPSE OF INFANT OR CHILD • AN UNCONCIOUS INFANT OR CHLD WITH HEART PROBLEMS

  7. STEP 2: CALL • CARE FIRST FOR: • AN UNWITNESSED COLLAPSE OF AN UNSONSCIOUS PERSON YOUNGER THAN 12 • DROWING VICTIM

  8. STEP 3: CARE • GIVE CARE TO EMS ARRIVE • RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THE SHORTER THE TIME FROM A PERSON COLLAPSES TO WHEN CPR IS INITIATED THE GREATER THE CHANCE OF SURVIVAL

  9. STEP 3: CARE • DO NO FURTHER HARM • MONITOR BREATHING AND CONSCIOUSNESS • HELP THE PERSON REST IN A COMFORTABLE POSITION/TEMPERATURE • REASSURE • SPECIFIC CARE

  10. TRANSPORTING A VICTIM • NEVER TRANSPORT A PERSON WHEN: • WHEN TRIP MAY HURT THE VICTIM • WHEN THE PERSON MAY DEVELOP A LIFE THREATENING CONDITION • IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF THE NATURE OF THE ILLNESS

  11. REACHING AN ILL OR INJURED PERSON • GENERALLY YOU SHOULD NOT MOVE AN INJURED PERSON • APPROPRIATE SITUATIONS • FACED WITH IMMEDIATE DANGER • WHEN YOU HAVE TO GET ANOTHER PERSON WHO IS MORE SERIOUSLY INJURED • WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO GIVE PROPER CARE

  12. EMERGENCY MOVES • WALKING ASSIST • PACK STRAP CARRY • TWO PERSON SEAT CARRY • CLOTHES DRAG • BLANKET DRAG • FOOT DRAG • PRACTICE THEM!!!!!
