Final Project: Shrinking a Real Animal.
E N D
Final Project: Shrinking a Real Animal You are working in a Zoo as part of a team that is trying to miniaturize animals. Your personal assignment is to choose a full sized animal and build a small scale-model. Then you are going to use the model you have created to estimate the surface area and volume of the real animal. Your team wants to use this information to then predict how the miniaturized animals might be different in such ways as lightness on feet (pounds per square inch), air resistance, and the ability to maintain body temperature in extreme heat or cold.
Phase 1: Completing the Blueprint Choose an animal to scale down. Then use the actual measurements of the full-sized animal and then scale them down to find the dimensions of your model. Required dimensions: Phase 1 should take you ONE DAY!! 20 cm HEIGHT 20 cm 10 cm LENGTH 10 cm
DOG 50 cm BLUEPRINT 1. The animal that I am going to miniaturize is the ___________. 2. Its actual dimensions (in cm) are: Length of Body __________ Shoulder Height _________ (use this space to work out an appropriate Scale Factor) 3. The Scale Factor that I am going to use is ___________. 4. This means that my mini-animal’s dimensions (in cm) are (All numbers should be rounded to the nearest cm) : Length of Body _______ Shoulder Height ______ 5. Use this space to draw a sketch. 25 cm 1/2 25cm 13cm
