Culture Jamming and meme-based communication. It is in my opinion that in this world of internet ruled communication that ‘Adbusters’ does have its place. However, I personally am a self-proclaimed anti-counterculist. As such I believe that countercultures are damaging to society as they disrupt the social order with mostly negative attitudes. As such I view ‘Adbuster’, and its use of Culture Jamming, as such a counterculture. ‘Adbuster’ introduces the meta-meme which is defied in the article Culture Jamming as “a two-level message that punctures a specific commercial image, but does so in a way that challenges some larger aspect of the political culture of corporate domination”. The idea of “ challenging the corporate domination” is not a new idea. However, it does carry some value. ‘Adbuster’ finds a useful home challenging certain corporate strangle holds that may or may not exist. In the event of it these holds existing ‘Adbuster’ can find itself useful; but as the fact stands that some may not exist and are just fabricated ‘Adbuster’ can be nothing more than a disruptive force. In conclusion, ‘Adbuster’ can find itself useful in using the meta-meme to loosen holds corporations hold on society, but if these holds do not exist the counterculture of Culture Jamming must be careful as it does not become disruptive to peaceful society.
My friend Jazz photo bombed me and it is humorous to stick his face on everything. Ex. (He learned never to photo bomb me again.)
