Blending Modes. 1. Adding Subtle Color. Open “little girl” photo in my OUT box in the digital photo practice image folder Convert to black & white Go to layers palette. Click on the “new fill or adjustment layer” button. select “solid color”

1. Adding Subtle Color • Open “little girl” photo in my OUT box in the digital photo practice image folder • Convert to black & white • Go to layers palette. Click on the “new fill or adjustment layer” button. select “solid color” 4. Change color to blue & click OK. (As soon as you add a new layer, the blending modes become active).
5. Pull out blending modes in layers palette (under layers tab) Blending modes are categorized useful groups 6. Select “color” under blending modes (last group) 7. Adjust opacity
2. Blending mode to add contrast 1. Open Tree Trunk image in my OUT box in the digital photo practice image folder 2. Go to layers palette Click on the “new fill or adjustment layer” button. select “black & white” increase reds & magentas. Click OK • Open blending mode options (under layers tab)select “overlay”
3. Lighten Color & Darken Color • Open “city skyline” photo in my OUT box in the digital photo practice image folder • Go to layers palette. Click on the “new fill or adjustment layer” button. select “black & white” manipulate colors: Red – 40 Yellow-103 Green-97 Cyan-17 Blue-3 Magenta-80 Click OK 3. Select “Darken color” in blend mode
4. Composite Textures & Images • Open “metal texture” photo in my OUT box in the digital photo practice image folder Open “wall clock” photo in my OUT box in the digital photo practice image folder • Drag clock image into metal texture layers palette or select the clock and copy & paste clock into metal texture layers palette • Select blending mode > darken in the (under layers tab)
Assignment • Practice each of the 4 blending mode examples 2x each on your original images. Save each as jpg and label appropriately. Drop in a name folder in my IN box in Blending Modes folder • Use all original photos. Due by Friday
