  2. What is a claim • A sentence that clearly states your opinion about a debatable topic and can be supported with logical reasons and evidence. • EXAMPLE: • Rover has fleas.

  3. Logical Reasons • Logical Reasons assume the truth of a claim, and merely try to show how it came about, what caused it, how it works, etc. • EXAMPLE: • The neighbor’s dog has fleas, and he’s been playing with him all morning.

  4. Evidence • The claim and logical reason must be supported by credible data, statistics, observable evidence, etc. • Rover has been scratching himself all day.
