  3. The Colony Founder -King Charles the 2nd of England is the founder of South Carolina. King Charles granted eight nobleman to settle the land between Virginia and Florida. They named this land Carolina in the king's honor. King Charles 2

  4. How the Founder Ended up Owning the Land - The eight nobles were King Charles the 2nd of England's eight favorites, and gave them a charter and certain privlages because they restored him the throne of his father. His grant was for them to settle the land which was Carolina. He gave the eight nobleman the responsibility of governing the colony. There were many problems so they divided the colony into two royal provinces to make the colonial government more effective. There was now South Carolina and North Carolina. It used to be called Carolana when Sir Robert Heath was granted the land from King Charles the 1st in 1629. Sir Robert Heath never developed the land so King Charles the 2nd was granted the same territory. That's how he ended up up owning South Carolina in 1663.
