  2. A Man George Segal was born to a Jewish family of New York. During his attendance at Cooper Union Art School following high school, he moved to his family’s poultry farm in New Jersey. His work in New York dictated Segal to travel through terminals and subways, viewing every dark corner of the city. These experiences would later influence his artworks. Artistic Mediums include: -plaster sculptures and reliefs -painting -photography

  3. A Plan -George Segal is associated with the Pop Art Movement however Segal believed in the depiction of reality over the abstract popular during this time. -Segal used his friends and family as models for his plaster reliefs -Segal’s unique method of using the plaster shell of the mould for his sculptures allowed the gestures to remain while the model’s facial features could be altered. -Objects give the sculptures placement in the surrounding

  6. A Purpose “I deal primarily with mystery and in the presentation of mystery. If I cast someone in plaster, it is the mystery of a human being that is presented. If I put him next to an object, it also raises a question about the nature of that object.” George Segal - • George Segal’s sculptures displayed stories, history and common scenes people so often miss • Segal meant to display human emotions and the human condition sometimes displaying the forgotten, the unseen or outcasted
