Crystal Caño Where the rainbow becomes a river (REFLEXIONES)
Crystal Caño is a river called “the most harmonious in the world,” “the river that escaped from paradise"
It is found in Serra da Macareña National Park in the city of the same name in the district of Meta,Colombia.
It is a river that is only 100 km long and has a bed depth of 20 m. For this reason, according to the traditional language of the region, it is called “caño”
It is also called “the five-colored river,” taking its pigmentation from the stones covered with moss and algae. Yellow, blue, green, black and red are its five vibrant colors. The presence of algae of different colors makes it a visual marvel.
The red color comes from a plant called Macarenia clavigera. When the water level is at its highest, moss and algae bloom with bright colors, giving the river its special character.
Crystal Caño is to be declared a Biological Heritage of Humanity. The best time to visit is from June to November, since the colors are more intense then because of the rains.
