  3. DETAILS! • G: Has a government that provides public services and police power. • E: Has external recognition. A country has been "voted into the club" by other countries. • T: Has a transportation system for moving goods and people.

  4. DETAILS! • P: Has people who live there on an ongoing basis. • E: Has an organized economy. A country regulates foreign and domestic trade and issues money

  5. DETAILS! • S: Has space or territory that has internationally recognized boundaries (boundary disputes are OK). • S: Has social structures, such as education. • S: Has sovereignty. No other State should have power over the country's territory.

  6. SOVEREIGNTY • States regulate their own internal (inside) and external (outside the country) affairs. • Once a country has sovereignty, it can determine its own taxes, laws, and government.
