Aircraft SeatsWorld Wide Round Robin Testing Pat Cahill
Aircraft SeatsWorld Wide Round Robin Testing • Materials have been ordered; 3 sets of 3 different types of seat materials • Fire hardened foam (type 1) with dress cover • Fire hardened foam (type 2) with dress cover • Foam with fire blocking layer and dress cover • Informal testing among a small number of labs has shown a disturbing lack of consistency in test data • Have requested that no changes be made (as recommended by the sub group) until the round robin is complete

Damping Material Pat Cahill
Damping Material • Various thicknesses of materials used (sandwich constructions) • Weakest link appears to be the PSA (adhesion to the aircraft skin) • Led to decision to test at interface of the damping material adhesive layer and piece of sheet metal (simulate aircraft skin) • Sample size and sample placement is similar to mated hook and loop samples
Damping Material(continued) • Requires build up to achieve correct height for flame impingement (using Kaowool M boards) • Somewhat difficult to achieve sample height • Intermediate scale tests scheduled for July 28 in small test rig which was used for the wire tests – we will be using the foam block as the ignition source
