Typical SASA High School Course of Study- 4years,4 cores • Mathematics (4 years required) • English (4 years required) • Science (3-4 years) • Social Studies (3-4 years) • Band (Elective) • Spanish/Foreign Language • Other -Visual or Performing Arts elective (1 year required) • Yearbook, AP Computer Science, Robotics,other electives, AP, SCC, dual enrollment or on-line • Most take Algebra thru Pre-Calculus or Calculus AB • Most take Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or if M/S take AP Chemistry, AP Physics and AP Environmental Science • All take 2 yrs. of U.S./World History and 1 yr of APGovernment/H Economics • All take 4 years of English through World Literature • 2+ years of Spanish

High School Schedule Full-day HS Student Daily Schedule • 1st hour (8:25 A.M. to 9:13 A.M.) • 2nd hour (9:13 A.M. to 10:01 A.M.) • 3rd hour (10:05 A.M. to 10:53 A.M.) • 4th hour (10:53 A.M. to 11:40 A.M.) Lunch (11:40 A.M. to 12:20 P.M.) P.M. Schedule for Full-Day OR Half-Day Students • Concentration (12:25 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.) • Core or elective class: 2:32 – 3:20 P.M. • Full Day Students:Daily Schedule is 8:25 A.M. to 3:20 P.M.

  5. High School Students will take one P.M. concentration course/program and up to one other course offered in the 7th hour. NOTE: Due to multi-grade level groupings at SASA, some courses are offered in alternating years.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS(Concentrations are in bold; all others are core courses) • English 9-10 – Exploration Lit./Composition (ELA 9) – G/T Language Arts 9/10 Exploration Lit./Comp. • English 9-10 – Appreciation Lit./Composition (ELA 10) – G/T Language Arts 9/10 Apprec. Lit./Comp. • English 11-12 –American Lit./Composition (ELA 11) –G/T 11/12 Advanced Placement English Language Composition/ World Literature • English 11-12 –World Lit./Composition (ELA 12) –G/T 11/12 Advanced Placement English Literature Composition/American Literature

ADDITIONAL ELECTIVES • Health & Physical Education - Michigan Merit Curriculum Graduation Requirements- One Year/1 semester of each • Yearbook- 9-12 (teacher recommendation for 9th &10th Grades) • Behavioral Studies 11-12 • Elements of Music 9-12 • Instrumental Band • Film in Literature or Writing for Publication- ELAelectives for 11th/12th Grade students • Robotics • AP Computer Science

  13. These options are available with permission of SASA counselor, administrator, and completion of Board of Education Requirements. Career & Technical Courses at the Saginaw Career Complex (Gr 11-12) Advanced Placement English Language & Composition or Advanced Placement English Literature & Composition are options available in junior and/or senior year per ELA teacher recommendation. A wide range of MI Virtual High School courses; usually Grades 11-12 (priority given to seniors). Dual Enrollment courses through attendance at local colleges & universities for Grades 11-12 Independent Study Courses (Teacher approval required and offerings vary by schedule & grade) 14
