  1. Chapter 5 Committee Writing Assignment • Four writing teams will start to draft their preliminary analysis of the PETMAN requirements that will be included in Chapter 5 of the report. • Teams are indicated on each slide. Underlined names are the team leaders. Relevant requirement numbers are referenced. • Template to follow: For each topic on the subsequent slides (numbered 1-4): • Describe the requirements • Describe current technologies capabilities • Design challenges and how they may be addressed • Cost/Benefit Analysis & tradeoffs • Feasibility & Potential alternatives • Writing assignments are due from the team leaders by February 15.

  2. Mannequin Under-Ensemble Test Conditions (Darrell, Leo, Carlos, Paul, Lisa, Art, Zane) 3.2.5 • Human Physiological Simulation: Simulate Various Conditions of Temp, Perspiration, Respiration: 3.2.5, 3.3.4.1-3.3.4.3, 3.3.13 Leo • Sensor technologies (e.g. remote recording) • Sampling Rate and number of measurements (parameters) • Real-time data collection vs. closed-loop control of environmental conditions (Art) • IPE Penetration (Paul, Lisa, Zane, Art) 3.2.4, 3.3.5 Zane • Sensor Technologies • Sampling Rate • Real-time data collection (Art) SPEAKERS/Info. needed: Human heat generation (space suit community?), data from PD TESS, MIST protocol

  3. Control of PETMAN (Chris, Hadi, Dava, Art, Lisa, Sundaresan) • Freestanding or Supported (Chris, Hadi) 3.2.1 • Tethered or autonomous (Chris, Hadi) 3.2.1, 3.3.2 • Movement and Degrees of Freedom for Various Parts of the Body including Tracking (Chris, Hadi) 3.2.7, 3.2.8, 3.3.13 • Biomechanical Efficiency: Handling Typical Equipment (Rifle, etc.) (Chris, Dava) 3.2.2 (3.3.10.1 – 3.3.10.4), 3.2.8 • Ability to Don/Doff without Modification of PPE including attachments to Respirator, etc. e.g., M45 Mask, JSLIST Type Suits, Single and Two-piece Suits, Suit with Mask, Gloves, … (Lisa, Sundaresan) 3.2.2, 3.2.8 • Programmability (Chris, Art) 3.2.7 • Power: Source, Duration (Chris) 3.3.2 SPEAKERS/Info. needed: Battery technology, Sarcos & Berkeley (?) speakers (non-tethered technology), Robonaut (Ambrose)

  4. Material for PETMAN “Skin” (Sundaresan, Zane, Leo, Paul, Carlos) 3.2.3 • Properties 3.2.6 • Physiological Simulation • Create This Environment • Be Monitorable (3.3.13) • Withstand Traditional Agents 3.2.6 • Be Decontaminable (with cleaning agents--bleach and hydrogen peroxide) 3.3.11 • Doesn’t affect performance of or be affected by SERPACWA 3.2.2 • Interact with Clothing (ACU, BDU, Chem-Bio Suit) [Tactile Feel of Skin] 3.2.3 SPEAKERS/Info. needed: Sweating mannequin manufacturers

  5. Integration: How Feasible is an integrated system based on the State-of-the-art Technologies? Hadi, Sundaresan, Art, Darrell) • Robotics, Controls & Mechanisms (Hadi) • Materials (Sundaresan, Hadi) 3.3.12 • Tradeoffs, Risk Assessment, Cost-benefit SPEAKERS/Info. needed: Previous PETMAN bidders & their proposals

  6. PETMAN Drivers • Performance Testing • Man-in-Simulant Test (note: but PETMAN will eventually be tested with live agents in specified chamber being built at Dugway Proving Ground). • Failure Metrics: Time and Dosage • Operational Period (Chris) • Continuous/Discrete) • Tether or Not to Tether (Chris, Hadi) • Effect of chamber conditions on the system 3.2.6
