2. Open your school email account and find the email from SCOIR with the subject line “Introducing SCOIR!” Click “Sign Up Now!” • On the welcome page, create a password for your SCOIR accounts- set your password to your first name (capitalize the first letter) and your student ID- exactly like your school email password! • Click on the box that states you are over 13, and click on the box that says, “I’m not a robot.” Then click on “Sign Up.” Scoir Sign Up InstructionsIf you do not have an email, go to: app.scoir.com/signup

3. Student Tutorial: https://vimeo.com/287882577 • Once logged into SCOIR, you will be prompted to answer a few questions. While these questions are optional, the answers will help you find colleges that will fit your personal and academic interests. • Once you click “Got it,” you can begin using the platform. 4. Senior Fact Sheets are REQUIRED to be submitted to your school counselor by June 3, 2019 for all students applying to a 4 year college! • It’s OK if you have updates after the summer- you can let us know when we return. • We use these sheets for your letters of recommendation and scholarships. Help us help you show how AMAZING you are to colleges! • It is preferred that you type your responses so it can be easily read. You can print it out and hand to your counselor or email it directly. • Senior Fact Sheets can be found on the School Counseling homepage- on the left hand side, click Junior Year Page. 5. Many four year colleges require 2-3 letters of recommendation from your teachers and/or your counselor. • Begin thinking about who you should ask for a letter of recommendation and plan ahead. • You are required to complete the Senior Fact Sheet to request a letter of recommendation. • You must ask IN PERSON first and then after the teacher agrees, you can request the letter on your SCOIR account. • Letter of Recommendation protocol can be found on the School Counseling homepage- on the left hand side, click Junior Year Page. 6. Many teachers will not complete a letter of recommendation unless you checked GRANTED to waive FERPA rights. • Upon logging in to SCOIR, you will be prompted to complete the FERPA Waiver(you may need to log in again to start this): • Click “Get Started” • Read through the Waiver and if you accepted to waive your rights, click “Granted” • Then click Sign and Finish on the bottom FERPA waiver

7. Every time you even THINK about applying to a school, add it to your SCOIR account under APPLYING or APPLIED. • Then, once you apply, complete the transcript request form and hand it directly IN PERSON to your school counselor. • You must follow both of these steps for us to complete your application and send the documents necessary. • Transcript Request Forms can be found on the School Counseling homepage- on the left hand side, click Junior Year Page. 8. SCOIR is how you search for colleges and keep track of the colleges where you want to apply. • SCOIR is how your school counselor will send your documents to the college to complete your application. • Common App/College Website/SUNY App is HOW YOU APPLY to colleges. • We only known when/where/how you applied when you tell us- this is why the transcript request form is so important! 9. Early Action (EA) • An option to submit your applications before the regular deadlines. When you apply early action, you get admission decisions from colleges earlier than usual. Early action plans are not binding. • Early Decision (ED) • An option to submit an application to your first-choice college before the regular deadline. When you apply early decision, you get an admission decision earlier than usual. Early decision plans are binding. You agree to enroll in the college immediately if admitted and offered a financial aid package that meets your needs. You can only use this option for ONE school. If you are accepted under early decision, you must retract all other applications. • Regular Admissions: • Applying with the majority of students at this deadline. We require all applications due by December 1st. • Rolling Admissions: • An admission policy of considering each application as soon as all required information (such as high school records and test scores) has been received, rather than setting an application deadline and reviewing applications in a batch. • College Board, (2016). 10. Take out your phones and download SCOIR’s mobile app in the App Store or in Google Play. • Input your username (school email) and password to gain access to your account. • Allow for “Push Notifications” so you can receive important messages, such as when colleges are visiting our school. 11. Go to: https://student.naviance.com/johnjay • Log on to your account. Your user name and password are the SAME and both are your STUDENT ID NUMBER. If your Student ID is 5 digits add 00 to the beginning. • If there are any colleges you saved on Naviance, add them to your FOLLOWING college list on SCOIR. • You may want to save or email to yourself, or print at home the information in Naviance: • Resume • Career Interest Results • Do What You Are Results • Learning Style Inventory Close out naviance

12. Click My Profile on the top of your screen. • Make sure your Personal Details and Academic Overview are accurate. • Add some Activities & Achievements. • You can attach this to your Senior Fact Sheet! Your teachers who will write your letter of recommendation will have access to see this as well. SCOIR Task 1: MY profile

Go to College Search (top left). • Start by completing an Advanced Search with the filters on the left-hand side. • Complete a Preference Search with Must Haves, Nice to Haves, and No Thanks to create a more tailored list of colleges that enables you to rank search criteria. 14. Explore colleges by clicking on any of the college tiles to learn more about that school. • Scroll through the Overview to find information on admission requirements, student life, academics, and financial aid. • While in a specific college’s detail page, click on the Wall tab, which is next to the Overview tab on the top left. Discover the college campus, activities, sports, and interests about that college. • Follow several colleges by clicking the ‘My Colleges’ badge to the right-hand side of any college name. • Click on My Colleges tab at the top to view the colleges that you have followed. 15. Have a personal email that you can use for all college applications and info- make sure it’s appropriate and that you check it regularly! • Adding a personal email ensures that you can access SCOIR after you have graduated. Adding an email is easy. Click on My Profile. • Within your Personal Details, click on +Add Alternative Email to input your personal email which can be used as a backup email address. • Your login email will still be the one that you originally used to access SCOIR. 16. Common App is the most common way that students apply to four-year colleges. You can apply to multiple schools with one application, and this saves time and effort! • Over 800 colleges accept a Common App application. • Some have their own supplemental material that needs to be completed. • There are other ways to apply to college- applySUNY (to apply to multiple SUNYs), CUNY First (to apply to multiple CUNYs), and directly through the college’s website. • Do NOT use your school email address- the emails often go to spam. 18. Once you have created your Common App Account, you will be assigned an ID Number (CAID …) at the top of your home screen under your name. • Copy this ID number. Go back to your SCOIR Account. • Click on My Profile. • At the top, click on the pencil next to Application IDs. • Paste your Common App ID on the first line under Common App. Common app ID
