  1. Kayaking can be a recreational sport, its aims may include enabling team and/or personal development. These aims may be achieved through a development of hard skills and team building exercises. However, I believe the main aim of kayaking is to have fun! Kayaking is an activity which is available to a wide range of people. Age, fitness and religion, ability are all factors which must be taken into account when kayaking, however the activity can be adapted to the needs of the group and individuals. kayaking To achieve the above aims, providers may take groups or individuals on a river journey or expedition. They may stop or talk along the way to incorporate environmental awareness into their development. Objectives may be educational, recreational or both. The location for kayaking is very much dependent upon group size, ability and water/weather conditions. For groups the most common locations for kayaking are lakes, meres and low grade rivers. Sea kayaking is also an option for groups. Locations are usually natural and for competitions courses may be set up on graded rivers. Kayaking is taught and offered by a range of providers including private clubs where fees may have to be paid by participants to the provider. Public providers such as outdoor centres and colleges, who are funded by the government and private investors provide kayaking as part of a course, may that be for a week or a year. The British Canoe Union (BCU) is the governing body for kayaking. The BCU gives providers and individuals guidelines to follow in terms of qualifications, memberships, clubs and opportunities. BCU membership also gives third party liability insurance for individuals whilst kayaking. The QR code above will take you to the BCU website for more info. Play Boat Sit on top Sea Kayak

  2. Canoeing can be a recreational sport, its aims may include enabling team and/or personal development. These aims may be achieved through a development of hard skills and team building exercises. However, I again believe the main aim of canoeing is to have fun! Canoeing is an activity which is available to a wide range of people. Age, fitness and ability are all factors which must be taken into account when kayaking, however the activity can be adapted to the needs of the group and individuals. Canoeing is a great activity for younger children as rafting can ensure they can remain out on the water for longer whilst working in teams to keep their energy up for a longer time. Canoeing To achieve the above aims, providers may take groups or individuals on a river journey or expedition. They may stop or talk along the way to incorporate environmental awareness into their development. Objectives may be educational, recreational or both. The location canoeing is very much dependent upon group size, ability and water/weather conditions. For groups the most common locations for canoeing are lakes, meres and low grade rivers. Locations are usually natural and for competitions courses may be set up on graded rivers. Canoe expeditions are a popular past time for many families and are great to combine with a camping holiday. Canoeing is taught and offered by a range of providers including private clubs where fees may have to be paid by participants to the provider. Public providers such as outdoor centres and colleges, who are funded by the government and private investors provide canoeing and rafting as part of a course, may that be for a week or a year. 3. To achieve these aims, providers may take groups or individuals on an expedition, be that for a day, 2 day, week or month long period. They may stop or talk along the way to incorporate environmental awareness into their development. Objectives may be educational, recreational or both. Sailing is an activity which is available to a wide range of people. Age, fitness and ability are all factors which must be taken into account when planning a sailing activity, however the activity can be adapted to the needs of the group and individuals. The location for sailing is very much dependent upon water/weather conditions. For groups the most common locations for sailing are lakes and seas. Locations are usually natural and for competitions courses may be set up. Sailing can quite literally take you all over the world and is a fantastic way to explore different countries and places. Sailing is taught and offered by a range of providers including private clubs where fees may have to be paid by participants to the provider. Public providers such as outdoor centres and colleges, who are funded by the government and private investors may provide sailing as part of an educational/recreational course, may that be for a week or a year. Sailing is an expensive activity and it is rare for outdoor centres to offer sailing, right is a QR code for a voluntary charity provider who offer sailing for disabled or disadvantaged people. Sailing The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the governing body for sailing. The RYA gives providers and individuals guidelines to follow in terms of qualifications, memberships, clubs and opportunities. RYA membership also gives third party liability insurance for individuals whilst sailing. The QR code above will take you to the RYA website for more info. Sailing can be a recreational sport, its aims may include enabling team and/or personal development. These aims may be achieved through a development of hard skills and team building exercises. However, I again believe the main aim of sailing is to have fun and explore new places.

  4. Wakeboarding is an activity which is available to a wide range of people. Age, fitness and ability are all factors which must be taken into account when planning a wakeboarding activity, however the activity can be adapted to the needs of the group and individuals. Wakeboarding can be a recreational sport, its aims may include personal and skill development. These aims may be achieved through a development of hard skills and coaching exercises. However, I again believe the main aim of wakeboarding is to have fun! The location for wakeboarding is very much dependent upon water/weather conditions. For groups the most common locations for wakeboarding are lakes and meres. Locations are usually natural and for competitions courses may be set up. In America there is a craze of wakeboarding indoors, massive manmade pools are used to hold competitions and demos with large audiences. To achieve the above aims, providers may give individuals the opportunity to pay for a series of lessons to develop skills whilst on the water.. Objectives are more likely to be recreational as there is little time to stop mid activity to provide an environmental or academically educational approach! Wakeboarding Wakeboardingis often taught and offered by a range of providers including private clubs where fees may have to be paid by participants to the provider. It is an activity requiring access to a speedboat which in itself can be an expensive piece of equipment, individuals will more often fund this activity themselves opposed to a public provider like an outdoor centre offering as an activity to all groups. The British Water Ski and Wakeboard (BWSW) is the governing body for wakeboarding. The BWSW gives providers and individuals guidelines to follow in terms of qualifications, memberships, clubs and opportunities. BWSW membership also gives third party liability insurance for individuals whilst sailing. The QR code above will take you to the BWSW website for more info.
