  2. Baldwin – Wallace College • Undergraduate population 3,099 students • 83% White, 7% Black, 3% Hispanic, and 2% Multi-Racial • 49% Four-year graduation rate • 82% Retention rate from 1st to 2nd year • 12% were Black, 5% were Hispanic, and 5% were Multi-Racial (22% total)

  5. Possible Promising Practice • Instituting traditionally African-American and Latino/a Greek Letter organizations • Why? • Sense of community • Service to own community • Leadership opportunity • Scholarly achievement and support

  6. Why Greek Life? • Sense of belonging • Connection with peer group • Positive relationships with faculty • Positive image in the college/greater community • Academic self-confidence (mentoring) • Social “capital” • Cultural connection/cultural competency • Identity development
