 Tequesta . By Gabi and Hayes. How They Arrived. The Tequesta (Tuh-Kes-Tah) tribe was the first tribe in South Florida. They built their tribe along the mouth of the Miami river. In the past they called Miami, Biscayne Bay They were a Native American tribe.

  2. How They Arrived • The Tequesta (Tuh-Kes-Tah) tribe was the first tribe in South Florida. • They built their tribe along the mouth of the Miami river. • In the past they called Miami, Biscayne Bay • They were a Native American tribe

  3. What the Tribe used for Tools… • Shark teeth for carving out logs to make canoes. • Shells for holding water. • Shark teeth for spears. • That’s what the tribe used for tools

  4. What They Ate… • Berries, Sharks, Fruits • Also manatees for special people as chiefs and prominent leaders.

  5. How They Died Out… • They died from disease • Battles • Also slavery • In the 1800’s there were only a few survivors.
