  6. Literacy Lectura y Escritura The Literacy curriculumis Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. This is delivered in both English and Spanish. • Whole-school approach - Fountas and Pinnell for reading. • Various reading comprehension and decoding strategies are used. • Writing program - different genres, grammar and punctuation. • Handwriting focuses on pencil grip and letter formation. • Differentiated groupings within the classroom. • Workshops - learning focus is tailored to student needs. • Assessments - Evaluación • Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessments • Letter sound recognition • Cold write whole school writing moderation • Pre and Post writing assessments

  8. Mathematics Matemáticas The Mathematics curriculum is Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry and Statistics & Probability. This is delivered in both English and Spanish. • Mathematics follows Newlands Instructional Model • Workshops are conducted to deliver content based on student needs. • A hands on approach to teaching Mathematics incorporates a range of different numeracy based games, hands on activities, songs/rhymes, problem solving and written tasks. • Assessments - Evaluación • Maths Online Interview • Pre and Post assessments

  10. Inquiry Investigación Students learn about the world in which they live through a range of different topics throughout the year. Understandings are constructed through working and conversing together to solve problems and make discoveries. • This term our focus is on the School Values and Keystones. • This is team taught in English and supported in Spanish. • The learning in collaborative, at times students work in groups and in pairs. • Assessments - Evaluación • Observations • Work Samples • Pre and Post assessments

Homework Tarea • Reading : 10 - 15 minutes nightly reading to, with and by parents/guardians and/or independently, to be recorded on reading log • Levels are based on the Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessments • Reader should be easy for student to read by themselves • Readers are changed each day and kept in the new protective reader folder • It is the responsibility for students to change their reader

  12. SpecialistsEspecialistas Physical Education - EducaciónFísica • Hi my name is Amy Parsons I am the new PE and sport teacher and co-ordinator. I will be teaching PE 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for 1 hour per class. Students will also have a second hour of sport with their class teachers each week. I will also be involved in the organisation of House sports for this hour for 4-6 students on Wednesday afternoons. • Will be experiencing games and activities to build special awareness, following rules of games and learning how to work with one another. They will also learn basic motor skills such as throwing, catching, running, jumping, kicking and dodging. My aim is for every student to build an enjoyment of sport and learn what it is to be a good sport and help one another learn new skills. • Music - Música • Strong emphasis on movement, particularly using the approaches of Orff Schulwerk and Dalcroze • Spanish content – songs and dances – as well as instruction and input in Spanish • Prep / 1 violin beginner program • Performing Arts - Artesescénicas • Visual Art - Artesvisuales
