Stage 1: Egg • First an adult butterfly lays an egg on a leaf. • The eggs stick to a leaf. • They will hatch soon.
Stage 2: larvae • When the eggs hatch caterpillar\larvae needs food to grow. • It will hide under a leaf so it does not become a meal for a predator. • As it grows a caterpillar will shed its skin witch is called molting.
Stage 3:pupa • A caterpillar will sit on a leaf stem. • Then the caterpillar hangs on to the leaf and forms its pupa.
Stage 4: butterfly/adult • After a few weeks the caterpillar opens the pupa. • Its wings will be wet so it shakes off its wings and flies away. • It is a butterfly.
