  1. What Does “Smart Window Tint” Really Mean? One of the latest trends in commercial windows in smart window tint. But even though you’ve almost certainly heard this term before, many people are unsure what it really means. So, what does “smart window tint” really mean, and how can businesses and homeowners benefit from this innovative technology? “Smart Window Tint” – What It Is Smart window tint can refer to any window tint that can shift the amount of protection it offers – without having to change the tint itself. This means that the windows can be clearer at certain times, like at night, and darker at others, such as when the sun is at its zenith. How does it work? There are two different types of smart window tint – those which simply react to the sun’s UV rays, and those which can be programmed. Some models are able to do both. Those that react to the sun’s UV rays will darken as they heat up. Once the tint reaches a certain temperature, particles developed into the tint will begin reacting to the heat. When it does, the tint will gradually become darker. One the temperature drops, the film will slowly return to clear. Other types of smart window tint can be programmed by home or business owners based on their personal preferences at the time. Often, these can be set via an interface on the wall (similar to a thermostat). It is also possible to set them from your smart phone, tablet, or other portable device. Who can benefit from smart window tint? Anyone who can benefit from regular window tinting can benefit from their “smart” counterparts. By now, most people can rattle off the benefits of tinting home windows. You can save money by reducing energy loss, protect your windows against shatter, reduce glare, and protect your home’s assets from UV ray damage. But smart windows take these benefits a step further – especially when it comes to comfort and convenience. With windows which can be adjusted based on your personal (and fluctuating) preferences, you can always be comfortable. The sun too bright or you need more privacy? Adjust the tint up. Want a little more sunshine? Adjust the tint down. It is also incredible convenient to have tint which will adjust itself based on current needs. Regular window tint, while functional, can be a bit too dark during night, early morning, or evening. During these hours when normal tint would be too much, smart window tint would be significantly clearer. Is it available to the general public? Smart window tint is available to the general public, although it’s mostly used by large business buildings currently. Why? Smart window tint tends to be very expensive, because it’s a new technology. Efforts are currently underway to make it much more affordable to the general public, however. Within the
