ITEMS TO SHARE • What’s happened since August: • Staff Training • Communication • Student Training • What’s next?
STAFF TRAININGS • Staff Training - October 17th • New Staff Training – February 13th • Curriculum Development and Teacher Training for Students
COMMUNICATION • In November families were notified of the new ALICE protocol via email and phone call • Each building communicated with families regarding the age appropriate implementation for their site • Tiger Talk radio show • Posters were created and hung in buildings
TEACHING BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE
Universal Signal! • School-wide activity • Bubble Gum Machine • Early Childhood • Sheep/Cotton Balls
Overall Objectives… • Read/listen to the book with your each class a minimum of 5 times • Assure that all students are able to recognize “the signal” – STOP – LOOK - LISTEN! • Students will be able to quickly follow instructions without asking “why”
Middle Level • ALICE MS Committee: Rachel Hansen, Jean Mather, Jen Chepa, Annetta Ewald • January/February: Curriculum Development for MS ALICE student training • March: Parent Notifications at MS Level, Staff Presentation, Staff Teams Question/Answer Session, and Student Training Days • April: review ALICE Model with students (one advisory day) • May: review ALICE Model with students and practice evacuation drill, (two advisory days)
Middle Level • March Student Training Days: (advisory, no Tiger Time) provide exit tickets • Monday, March 11 – Day 1 ALICE PPT: Intro and Review of ALICE Model • Tuesday, March 12 – Day 2 ALICE PPT: Objective is to learn Alert, Inform, and Evacuate • Wednesday, March 13 – Day 3 ALICE PPT: Objective is to learn the difference between Lockdown with Intruder and Lockdown with Warning and to learn about Counter • Thursday – (early release) no ALICE training • Friday – (late start) Day 4 ALICE PPT: Review and Discuss (4) Scenarios • Monday – Day 5 ALICE PPT: Objective is to successfully identify and model Alert, Inform, Evacuate through dialogue
Middle Level • April: Review ALICE Model (one advisory day) • May: review ALICE Model (one advisory day) • May: practice evacuation drill to campus rally points (one advisory day)
SECONDARY LEVEL • Curriculum Development and Teacher Training for Students – February 15 • Student Training – March 25 – March 29 • Modified schedule during block 1 – 20 minutes • Lessons on M, T, TH, and F
SECONDARY LEVEL • Monday – Overview of ALICE along with a training video • Tuesday – Alert, Inform, Evacuate (including rally points) • Thursday – Lockdown, Counter • Friday – Scenarios
NEXT STEPS • On June 11 & 12 – the ALICE Institute will visit Marshall to provide a training and certification class • Annual student training and drills
