The problem with 1984 • “Big Brother” wins and completely destroys Julia and Winston. O’Brien takes great pleasure in their destruction. The stage is set from the beginning to bring about Winston’s failure. • Winston is completely unprepared to “win” against Big Brother. • This is hard to watch. We want a hero to save us from this type of pervasive, evil system. • Does your movie offer a hero that can beat the totalitarian system and usher in a new world of freedom and peace?
