  1. Crutch Fitting

  2. Height • Start by adjusting to athlete’s height • Place crutches 3” up and 2” out from the top of the shoe • Measure 1” (2 finger widths) from armpit

  3. Hand Grips • Athlete’s elbow should be bent approximately 30 °

  4. Instructions • Walking • Crutches first, good leg swings through • Sitting • Place both crutches in one hand holding the hand grips together and reach for the chair with your other hand to lower yourself slowly. • Standing • Hold both crutches by the hand grips in one hand and push up with the other hand on the chair. Put one crutch under each arm

  5. Instructions • Stairs • Whenever possible, use a handrail. • Up Stairs • step up with the good leg, then the bad leg, and lastly bring up the crutch • Down Stairs • lower crutch down to the step below, move your sore leg down and then bring your stronger leg down • *Good goes to heaven, bad goes to hell*

  6. Weight Bearing • Non-Weight Bearing (NWB) • keep your foot off the ground. • Partial Weight Bearing (PWB) • "some" weight on your foot, "some" through your hands on the crutches. • Fully Weight Baring (FWB) • No crutches needed

  7. Partner up! • Grab a set of crutches • Take turns • Fitting • Instructing • Practicing the movements
