READING Adairsville Middle School TIGERS Program
Whatwe’re doing, and things you might be able to use. . .
Why it works: • Collaboration • Administrative Support • Time • Perseverance
Components of the program: • Scholastic Reading Inventory • Scholastic Reading Counts! • Reading Tigers
SRI uses Lexile measurement. • Interpreted as a book level that a student can read with 75% comprehension • 75% comprehension is the level identified by experts as offering the reader a certain amount of comfort and yet still offering a challenge
Lexile Equivalents AMS Targets Grade 6 – 1000L Grade 7 – 1100L Grade 8 – 1200L
SRI determines Lexilelevel and range. • 920L • 820 - 970
AMS students who are currently at or above Target: • 6th: 56of 239 • 7th: 57of 242 • 8th: 75of 237
Reading Counts! • RC can be configured to allow student to take a quiz more than once. • RC has a bank of 30 questions for each quiz, so each quiz taken is a little different. Why do we use RC rather than AR? FLEXIBILITY!
Reading Tigers Originated and designed by the AMS ELA teachers.
