  2. Air Pressure • Gravity is the force that keeps our atmosphere from drifting off into space. • Gravity is closest to the ground. • Air is densest at the ground and gets less dense as you go up. • Denser air exerts more air pressure.

  4. Temperature • As a substance is heated, its particles move more quickly. • As the particles move more quickly, they bounce off each other. • Substances EXPAND as they heat up. • When volume increases, density decreases.

  5. Temperature and Density AIR IS HEATED. AIR COOLS Air’s density increases. Air pressure decreases. The balloon falls. Air’s density decreases. Air pressure increases. The balloon rises.
