‘General Quality Assurance of Silicon Sensors and Parts Flow’ DØ Inner Layer Sensor Production Readiness Review August 08, 2003 M. Demarteaufor the Run IIb silicon group Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Sensor Delivery • The production at Hamamatsu calls for the following delivery schedule: • The terms of the contract with Hamamatsu are such that the project has six months after receipt of the sensors to reject them Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Parts Flow • All sensors are ‘checked in’ at Fermilab undergo visual inspection • Outer Layer sensors: • Fermilab: IV/CV • 10% to Stony Brook, KSU for strip tests in ratio 2:1 • Inner layer sensors: • All tests at Rochester Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
QA Program • Sensor QA and Distribution • Rene Jones receives sensors, enters data into database • passes sensors for I-V, C-V and visual inspection • Mme. Mao will do all C-V, I-V measurements and long-term burn-in • Nina Ronzhina will do all visual inspection with Rene Jones as backup • Ralf Bernhard will oversee the whole QA program • backup help from Ron Lipton, Marcel Demarteau, L3 managers • passes 10% of sensors for mechanical measurement at Fermilab • based on recommendation from L3 managers • measurements performed on OGP by SiDet metrology group • Outer layer sensors • ship 10% of the sensors to various test sites, based on L3 manager recommendation • Stony Brook : KSU = 2/3 : 1/3 • Stony Brook: Bob McCarthy, Hai-Jiang Gong • KSU: Robin Sidwell, Ron Sidwell + graduate students • Inner layer sensors: • ship 100% to University of Rochester • Sergey Korjenevski + graduate students Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Irradiation QA Program • Sensor Irradiation • All irradiation carried out at KSU JRM using 10 MeV proton beam • 1.5% of the test structures with diodes and baby sensors will be irradiated • two sessions 2.5x1013 1MeV n equivalent/cm2 each. • The depletion voltage after the integrated dose must not exceed 350 V and no breakdown can be observed at this voltage or below. • Person in charge of irradiation at KSU is Tim Bolton Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Manpower Estimates for Probing • Based on workload, timing of actual strip scan of sensors using switching matrix, maintenance of setup, etc, determined the distribution for various test sites and FTE’s needed All people identified by name, and have accepted the responsibility, for carrying out the proposed QA program. Manpower for measuring irradiated sensors will come mainly from KSU Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Database • All information will be stored and tracked in database • Adopted ATLAS database • Old database in MySQL relied on student in computing department at UIC. Concerns about long term stability, support and flexibility motivated us to adopt the ATLAS database design • Oracle based identity relationship • Item • Test • Assembly • Shipment/Tracking • Ideally suited to silicon detector • Official transfer of designer files from ATLAS by the University of Geneva • Supported by DØ online support group • Stan Krzywdzinski, Vladimir Sirotenko, Taka Yasuda, Stu Fuess • Will provide web interface using existing tools Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Entity Relationship • Full entity relationship defined and implemented • Database can be accessed at http://www-d0online.fnal.gov/sdb-dev/ Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Database Use • Common excel format defined for all sensor tests • Scripts have been written which take the information from the spreadsheets and uploads the information into the database • Server at each test site with all information • e.g. http://sbhepnt.physics.sunysb.edu/silicon/L2 • Same principle used for all components in the silicon detector Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
Conclusions • All outstanding concerns have been addressed regarding • quality control • manpower estimates • site verification • tracking • data storage and retrieval • We believe we have a rigorous quality sensor control program in place • Well defined QA procedures • Certified test sites with trained personnel • Sound manpower estimates and manpower allocated to the project • Part tracking using Oracle database • We thank the committee for helping us addressing some earlier shortcomings Dzero RunIIb Sensor PRR, August 8, 2003 - Marcel Demarteau
