  4. Objectives • Become familiar with the goals, policies, and procedures of the course • Get to know other students in the class • Describe the history of special education and key legislation that has shaped its development • Define key terms and ideas important to special education

  5. Agenda • Intros, getting to know each other • Review the syllabus and assignments • Discussion—What is special education? • Intro to special education—Chapters 1 and 2 powerpoint • Special education alphabet soup • Century projects—groups and planning

  6. Homework • Get a copy of the book • Read chapters 1 and 2—write a ½ to 1 page response to either “focus on instructional strategies” or “focus on collaboration” under the heading Reflecting on Standards (p. 40 and p. 83) • Review the online content for ch 1 and 2 • Sign on to the wiki and review the information it contains • Begin working on your Century group projects
