  5. Definition of history • History is the study of people and events of the past. History is all about change. All the time, man has experienced changing times and changing ideas. History tells of how the people of different times and places lived. • History is about people. It is about the important people such as rulers, thinkers, explorers, artists e.t.c. who made an impact in their time and even beyond. History is also about ordinary people and their everyday lives e.g. how they lived, what they thought e.t.c

  6. Elements of history • The study of History includes 3 elements: • Historians try to find how people lived, what happened to them and what happened around them. • Historians search for the reason behind these events. • They examine the effects of these events and the facts of history; they also give their view of interpretations of events.

  7. ONE THING YOU MUST KNOW! • Often Historians hold different views which make history even more interesting. However, all Historians must follow one golden rule in their approach to the past; they must base their interpretations of events on the EVIDENCE. Evidence is usually got from sources such as documents, arts, coins tools, building e.t.c

  8. HOW CAN WE UNDERSTAND OUR WORLD TODAY? The cultures of the past are our best clues to History. By looking at yesterday’s people, we can understand the world as it is today and as it might become tomorrow. History helps to explain why things are the way they are.
