  2. Flivver • ‘Flivver’ was a slang word for an old automobile that was usually small and inexpensive. • The term was most often used in the 1920’s. • Often a Model T. Ford

Flivver • “One night, in an excessive spurt of high spirits, the boys backed around the square in a borrowed flivver, resisted arrest by Maycomb’s ancient beadle, Mr. Conner, and locked him in the courthouse outhouse.” This passage is in Scout’s voice when she is telling us about the rumors of Boo Radly’s childhood. She’s referring to the time when Boo and his friends rode around in a flivver then proceeded to tie up Mr. Conner. They were charged for disorderly conduct, among other things, and Boo was not seen again for 15 years.
