  3. Key Terms • Writer – person that wrote the poem • Speaker – “narrator” of the poem • Line – one line of poetry • Stanza – “paragraph” of poem

  4. Patterns • Rhythm – the pattern of emphasis on the words • Rhyme – repeated end sounds of words • Alliteration – repeated beginning sound of word • Consonance – repeated consonant sound in words • Assonance – repeated vowel sound in words

  5. Figurative Language • Allusion • Simile • Metaphor • Personification

  6. Humans are Rhythmic • What are some patterns that we go through as human beings? • As creatures of the earth? • What patterns do we see in ourselves and nature?
