Special Trustees strategy day NHS Challenges The NHS is facing an unprecedented challenge in meeting growing demand for services within the financial constraints of flat real funding growth, leading to a forecast financial gap of £30bn by 2020/21. The prospect of resources being outstripped by demand, driven largely by an ageing population and an increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, presents a significant challenge to the way the NHS currently commissions and provides care.
