  4. Church-Based Ministry • One of the problems facing the Church is the short attention span and constant fascination with the novel. • The time it takes for a concept to permeate globally, to the congregational level, is measured in years.

  6. Health Education for Pastors • 80 lectures; part of the MA program offered by the Adventist University of Africa (AUA) in an abbreviated format was utilized in LLUSPH’s program in Russia for the MPH. • Liaison with Ministerial is being explored.

  7. Health Education for Pastors • There is a shortened form of this program taught at Division Health Summits. • GC/HM is open to teaching this course at Adventist Universities and Colleges, wherever future pastors are being trained.

  8. Online Health Ministry Education and Certification • The German Union’s health ministry education program. • Currently, there are three websites under construction: • One for the ICPA; • HealthMinistry.com; • PositiveChoices.com

  9. Health Professional Liaison • Nurture of health professionals takes place through regional meetings and specific sub-groups such as dentistry and nursing professions are given specific attention. • “Quest for Quality” seeks to encourage health professionals to reach high levels of quality.

  10. Appreciative Inquiry Visits to Mission Hospitals • Teams of specialists visit mission hospitals upon the invitation of the Division Health Ministries Directors. • These visits reach into many isolated hospitals, bringing encouragement and a sense of family to some very isolated people.

  11. Temperance Work • Temperance is a major work of the Health Ministry Department. • Dozens of new national branches of the ICPA have been formed. • This work is of high profile. • An invitation from the police and army in the Emirates is expected to result in the setting up of an office of Health Education in Abu Dhabi.

  12. Collaborative Activities • GC/HM is very involved in the expanding interest globally in building new medical schools, dental schools, and schools of public health. • Liaison with Global Mission and their Centers of Influence. • Multiple prospects of liaison with Ministerial, Children’s, Women’s and Family Ministries.

  13. Interaction with Secular Agencies • Secular agencies, such as WHO and PAHO have welcomed the SDA Church to contribute to their programs. • In South America, with the medical school in Argentina, the Adventist University in Sao Paulo, in Lima, Peru. • The IAD worked closely with PAHO in Haiti.

  14. Regional and Global Conferences • Recognition of mental health issues has prompted a mental health expert to be added to the GC/HM team.

  15. Regional and Global Conferences • The world conference on mental health will focus on our biblical worldview, and its interpretation in our response to mental health issues. • The success of the Geneva conference in 2009 prompted a desire to run another such conference in 2014; funding is being set aside.

  16. Materials Production • The revision of old materials, production of new – including a book on health. • The GC Nutrition Council is charged with constant surveillance of the nutrition landscape.
