Anne Sickles for the PHENIX Collaboration RHIC AGS Users Meeting Poster Session Hadrons at High pT in dA Collisions at PHENIX
Motivation for dA Measurement • Strong supression seen in AuAu collisions • Determine whether this effect is initial or final state effect From K. Adcox, et al. PRL 88 22301 (2002)
Cronin Effect • Mean kT in p-nucleus collisions is greater than the mean kT in pp collisions • Due to some multiple scattering as the particle leaves the nucleus
Questions to Ask • Is Rda > 1? • What is the maximal value of Rda? • Does Rda fall at high pT? • Is Rda the same for 0 and inclusive charge?
PHENIX Experimental Setup 12 million minimum bias events used in the charged analysis charged particles measured in PHENIX drift chambers and pad chambers neutral particles measured in PHENIX EM Calorimeter
Inclusive Charged Results The blue bars show the pT dependent systemmatic errors; grey bars show all systemmatic errors. The black points are the dA data. The central pink line is the pp reference spectra, while the lighter lines show it's uncertainty.
0 Results PHENIX Preliminary PHENIX Preliminary Solid Lines: blue is with antishadowing (EKS parameterization), red has no (anti)shadowing, green is with strong shadowing ( d+Au ref: I. Vitev, nucl-th/0302002 and private communication.
Comparison of Charged and 0 Charged (red) and π0 (black) with common systemmatic errors shown seperateley (green band) PHENIX Preliminary
Comparison to Predictions Dashed line is with antishadowing (EKS parameterization), solid has no (anti)shadowing
Conclusions • Rda is greater than one for inclusive charged and consistent with one for 0 and looks flat below 8GeV/c. • The maximum value for Rda allowed within the error bars is about 1.5 for inclusive charged and 1.3 for 0. • Within the one sigma systemmatic errors Rda of inclusive charged seems to be greater than Rda for the neutral pions.
