Introduction • This lab will test the effect of induced competition and the cheerleader effect on individuals performance in a variety of tasks
Conditions • Solo- self-timed • 1-on-1- objective timer • Teams- objective timer with combined score • In front of class (with class cheering)- objective timer • Group (1 v. 1 v. 1 v. 1)- with objective timer
tasks • Temple run • Sort cards into their various suits • Word search • Filling up beakers with precision • Math problem (only for condition in front of class with cheerleading)
Materials • Decks of cards • iPads • Beakers • Word Search • Timers
Procedure • Preform task solo (alternating with lab partner) two times each • Split class into two groups (one led by Julia one by Amelia) a) Preform tasks under one-on-one and team conditions (two times per lab group) • Regroup as a class and go through as many group tasks 1 v. 1 v. 1 v. 1 or single in front of class (whichever we have time for) a) The condition in front of the class will be a math problem
