Presentation By: Brian Rodriguez N v1.4
N • Action Game • Produced by Raigan Burns and Mare Sheppard of Metanet Software Inc. • Freeware
Requirements • Are not stated • Estimates: • 2.08 MB disk space • 29 MB ram • Run in 1024x768 resolution • Runs in Macromedia flash player • CPU hog
Overview • Maneuver a ninja through 500 levels. • Get gold • Avoid ninja killing robots
Installation • Download it from http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/ • Unzip it • Play it
User Interface • Main menu and choosing a level to play is point and click • When the level is loaded, press space to start
Controls • Only use 3 keys while playing the game: • Left arrow accelerates left • Right arrow accelerates right • Shift to jump
Controls • Hold shift longer for a higher jump • Tap it quickly for a short jump
Controls • Press in the direction of a wall to hang onto it and slowly slide down • Or you can jump off it
Gameplay • The objective in every level is to touch the 'remote terminal' that opens the exit, then reach the exit
Gameplay • This is complicated by various enemies
Time • Complete 5 levels at once – or start back at the first of the 5 next time • Start with 90 seconds on the timer • Each gold piece picked up adds 2 seconds • The time remaining is carried over to the next level
Graphics • Simplistic graphics • Smoothly animated
Sound and Music • No music • Minor sound effects
Special Features • Beat 10 episodes (50 levels) to unlock a different colored ninja • Beat 50 episodes (250 levels) to unlock overdrive mode • User-unfriendly level editor • Over 50,000 (!) user created levels online • Online high scores list • Saves a replay of best time for every level
Manual • 12 KB readme • 81 KB editor manual • The game's online help is best for getting started
Bugs • Some sprites can be stood on, and the detection for falling isn't as good as with stationary terrain
Pros • Good physics / control of character • Easy to start playing
Cons • Making it to the 5th (final) level of an episode and not being able to beat it • It doesn't take long before you've seen all the types of enemies
Comparision • In most other 2d action games, there are more things you can make your character do, such as pick up items or weapons • In N, you can only run and jump • N has good physics compared to other 2d action games
Audience • There is blood and dismemberment, but it is unrealistic and cartoony • Must be able to use keyboard • Good timing is required
Design Mistakes? • This game would be a lot less frustrating if it counted every level completed, not every episode (5 levels)
Strengths • The physics • The smooth animation • The joke storyline
Weaknesses • That it saves every 5 levels beat, not every level • The limited variety in things that make up a level • The fact that the ninja doesn't have a sword
Worth Purchasing? • Worth every cent • Worth the download
Improvements • Save every level completed • Add more of a story • Add different types of sprites
