Climate Friendly Parks Pacific West Region
Vision for Carbon Neutral The Pacific West Region will be carbon neutral in its operations. Achieving carbon neutrality will require the reduction of carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases through energy conservation, an increase in renewable energy, and an increase in park carbon sequestration.
PWR strategy is to focus on: • EMS • Climate Friendly Parks • Mitigation Action Plan • Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation • Water Conservation • Fossil Fuel Conservation & Replacement • Fleet Management and Alternative Transportation • Sustainable Design/LEED Buildings, SBIP • Solid Waste, Green Purchasing, and Pollution Prevention • Education and Communication
FM Climate Change Mitigation Action Plan • Data Analysis - PWR energy use and emissions • data, energy & vehicle use trends • Tools & Information - opportunities for emissions • reduction, cost-effective, mitigation technologies • Action Items & Schedules - region to park actions, • timeframe, responsibilities • Work towards EO 13423 goal to reduce emissions 30% by 2015 • New EO 13514 Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, • and Economic Performance
Conduct GHG Inventories in all parks by • Dec. 2009, using 6 SCA interns • Complete 3 park and 5 network workshops by April 2010 • Complete Climate Action Plans by Sept. 2010
The Youth Connection • New funding opportunities to employ youth to green our parks and implement CFP’s • 2010 - Youth Intern Program new! • 2010 - WASO based University programs • 2011 - Youth Partnerships Program • 2011 - double YCC funds
