  2. Dyabola: subject searches • In this demo we search the Sachkatalog der Römisch-Germanischen Kommission (RGK) Frankfurt. The Monographien der Bibliographie zur Vor- und Frühgeschichte Europas (RGK) and the Eurasienbibliographie (DAI) work on the same principle • This demo uses the English version • Only one search term is allowed, but searches may be combined afterwards. See the demo: “Combining queries”

  3. textile You are looking for publications on textiles Use an English or a German term Search looks for words from the title and author

  4. This finds all titles in which textile occurs, even if it is part of a word Perform a new search via Search with textiel or only part of the term, e.g. texti Not all languages are covered this way

  5. Or use the option Classification (Hierarchy) . Do not enter a search term!

  6. You now see the 11 main categories Click a category to see which subcategory is relevant For example, you are looking for textiles from the paleolithicum Then click the relevant category

  7. Repeat this for the subcategories

  8. Click Information and Back links for a list of all titles in this subcategory

  9. 10 relevant titles The tab Parents takes you back to the higher level Kleidung/Tracht/Schmuck The button back to Classifiction takes you back to the main categories

  10. Or search for the term Textile in the Classification . Textil This way you search all subcategories Always start with a capital letter and where possible enter only the first part of the term

  11. Then select the best term for your search If there is more than one relevant term, perform searches with each of them in turn

  12. Textiles (Textilien) occurs in 21 subcategories Click each to see the subcategory

  13. Click Textiles under Session resultsin the right margin to go back to the list of subcategories We are now in the subcategory Paläolithikum…Textilien Click Information and Back links for a list of all titles in this subcategory

  14. TIP: find a relevant title and see which classification it has been assigned

  15. Then click it to find articles which have the same classification

  16. Summary There are various ways to search by subject: • Search: searches for words in the title and author fields. Use word variants (textile, textiel, etc.) • Expert Search – Classification (Hierarchy): this way you find articles on your subject in all languages. However, it is not always easy to find the right subject tree • Expert Search – Classification (List): searches for terms within the Classification subcategories. Frequently used terms result in very large search results
