2. The Project Learning Transformation for MA’s in
Brickwork
Carpentry and Joinery
Painting and Decorating
Roofing and Tiling
Stonework The project
First a quick description of the project: The project is about transforming the learning experience for learners (in this case Modern Apprentices who are all employed) and the teaching experience for tutors in Scottish FE Construction departments - but the key to this is developing the appropriate e learning content to allow this to happen. We are developing content to provide the underpinning knowledge and understanding for level 2 and 3 SVQs that comprise the Modern Apprenticeships in:
Brickwork
Carpentry and Joinery
Painting and Decorating
Roofing and Tiling
Stonework.
In doing this we are attempting to reduce the time allowance for face-to-face contact between tutor and learner and allow more of the learning to take place in the workplace and at home. This is particularly important in the Highlands and Islands, where Modern Apprentices might work and live a long way from the nearest FE College and employers worry about their Apprentices being away from base. These developments do not necessarily lessen the time input for tutors but it changes their role from an emphasis on class teaching to on-line support and mentoring.
Partnerships within the education, industrial and public sectors are crucial to making this happenThe project

5. Effective Practice: How? Effective eLearning will happen if there’s:
The right resources
The right blend of delivery modes
The right content and context
The right learners
The right level of support
6. Defining Approaches to Learning
7. Defining Approaches to Learning
8. Which Approach? Them all!
Selection depends on:
Subject
Learners
Values
Practitioners
9. Technology Needs Connectivity – access to information on a global scale
Flexibility – learning occuring any place, any time
Interactivity – immediate and autonomous assessment
Collaboration – discussion forums supporting collaborative learning beyond the traditional classroom
Extended Opportunities – reinforcement and extension of classroom-based learning
Motivation – providing interest, engagement and fun
Compliant – SCORM, W3C and infrastructure
Industry Standard – common toolsets, IP transfer and rapid development
10. The Solution
Design for best learning,
not best use of technology!
