PDP definition general • From University of Glasgow website http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/employabilityandpersonaldevelopmentplanning/pdpfor/students/ • PDP can mean different things to different people at different times in their university career. Put simply, it involves recognising your capabilities and interests as well as areas to work on, making an active plan to gain new skills and experiences and thinking carefully about what path to choose for the future.  Taiz feb 2010

Roles of stakeholders • Stakeholders are future teacher, academic program leader, Taiz university management , external course developer/teacher • Future teacher and ac program leader define specific PDP • Taiz management and external developer/teacher supply resources • External developer and future teacher execute the PDP after agreement Taiz feb 2010

  5. The PDP development proces • Making the general definition Taiz specific • Getting agreement on the content • Getting agreement on the plan Individual PDP’s are concepts because of interdependence of course and resource allocation Taiz feb 2010

  6. PDP definiton specific I • Recognising interests and capabilities (a) Identify courses in Taiz E&M or IT&M master program you would like to teach (b) Give on a 5 point scale a score for your practical experience, knowledge,teaching experience, self learning ability, ambition Taiz feb 2010

PDP definiton specific II • Making an active planto gain new skills and experiences (a) Choose up to 4 courses with highest score (b) Identify relevant sources for gaining skills and knowledge i.e. (1) books, articles, internet (2) courses in the E&M program, (3) external courses, symposia, conferences, contacts Taiz feb 2010

An example : The case of Mohammed Yemeni • Initial choice 9 courses from Method engineering … Materials processing to Individual Master research • Averaged scores from 2 for supply chain management to 4.5 for materials processing • Selected PDP courses Methods Engineering, Materials processing, Individual master research. Production Systems and TQM are alternative courses depending on interference with other PDP’s. Taiz feb 2010

An example : continued • For Method Engineering a state of the art book will be chosen in accordance with the course lecturer . • For Materials Processing articles and internet sources will be chosen in accordance with the course lecturer . • For Individual master research an external course or symposium will be chosen in accordance with the course lecturer and contacts with local industry will be established . How to go from here ! • It is the primary responsability of the future lecturer to contact the academic program leader for reaching at an agreed PDP • The academic program leader should coach the future teacher • Together they could choose an alternative format for the PDP • PDP agreement with Taiz management asap • PDP execution agreement with external developer asap Taiz feb 2010
