Why are we doing this? • For Smarter Balanced Organization • To see how it works • Test the online system • Test administration logistics • To ensure validity, reliability and fairness • Which questions work/don’t • Accuracy of test questions • To set preliminary standards • Establish scoring and reporting scales • For KSD • To see how it works • Test the online system • Test administration logistics • To gauge our readiness • To work out the bugs BEFORE it’s high-stakes • To practice

  3. Test organization • 3 Parts • Non-performance (similar to MSP – multiple choice/fill-in-the-blank) • Classroom Activity (teacher led – scripted) • Non-performance (students research and apply knowledge based on activity) • Non-performance/performance completed on computer • Untimed • Math • Non-performance is all in 1 part • English Language Arts • Non-performance is in 2 parts (research and application) Page 43

  4. Time to test - suggested

  5. Scheduling • Testing window – • All students must start the test by the last day of the testing window • Students have 45 days to complete the non-performance tasks • Students have 10 days to complete the performance tasks • Can run beyond testing window provided test is started inside the window • Our schedule

  6. Rules for testing • Testing Environment • Quiet, free from distractions • No access to cell phones, iPods, cameras, etc. • Information on the walls must be covered • Arranged appropriately to discourage “copying” • Students are actively supervised. • Printing • Only to meet accommodations • Securing materials • Under lock and key • Scratch paper etc.- shredded • Computers – Secure Browser • Close external applications • No testing with dual monitors Page 42

  7. Testing Improprieties, irregularities or breaches • Impropriety – low risk of impacting student performance or test security • A student logs in with another student’s SSID • The teacher answers a students question about a test item during the test • The teacher leaves the testing room or puts a student in charge • Irregularity – potentially affects student performance or test security • Failure to monitor student behavior – teacher is reading email or doing other “teacherly” work • Failure to remove or cover classroom displays that provide information regarding the content being tested • Paraphrasing, omitting, revising or rewriting the script of directions contained in the test administrator’s manual • Breach – poses a treat to the validity of the test • Test materials are stolen or missing • Improprieties and Irregularities must be reported to Razak within 24 hours • Breaches must be reported to Razak immediately Page 63

  8. The Secure Browser • Desktop application used to “take the test” • All other applications must be closed • Error messages • Secure Browser Not Detected • Unable to Establish a Connection with the Test Delivery System
